A New Light Show for Milan’s Duomo

It was recently announced that Milan’s Duomo will become even more striking in 2019 with a new evening light show.

Milan’s Duomo is well known for its Gothic appearance and striking position on Piazza del Duomo in central Milan. To create an even more imposing appearance, the Veneranda Fabbrica, which manages maintenance of the Cathedral, has announced that the building will be treated to new evening illumination.

The plan is due to complete in December 2018 and will involve 574 LED projectors, costing around €195,000. With the lighting sure to create an unbelievable evening vista, 2019 will be a wonderful time to visit Milan on a tailor-made Italy holiday.

About Milan’s Duomo

Milan’s Duomo is one of the most recognised masterpieces of Gothic architecture in the world. It is also one of the most divisive: some people love the varying styles and dominance of the Cathedral, while others find it ugly and obtrusive.

The reason Milan’s Duomo is a mixture of styles is because it took six centuries to complete! When you consider that it is the largest church in Italy, this is perhaps not surprising.

The Cathedral is thought to sit at the centremost point of Milan and, if you take an aerial view of the city, you will see that the main streets radiate from the Cathedral or circle around it.
