Well preserved artefacts
Around €1.8 million was spent on the Ostia Antica restoration. To restore these environments, surfaces were carefully washed and hand brushed to clear away debris. The archaeologists responsible for the Ostia Antica restoration were Mr Morelli and Ms Paola Germoni. During construction, areas of eroded mortar were renewed and gaps filled using original materials. Using 2nd-century techniques and materials, the archaeologists were able to complete the Ostia Antica restoration, bringing the site to life.
As part of the Ostia Antica restoration, the project will require constant maintenance. Much like the Colosseum or the Verona Arena, it is believed the Ostia Antica restoration requires preservation for future generations to enjoy.
