Arrivederci charming Florence and Welcome to the Amalfi Coast!
While heading down to the south of Italy, you will stop by the magnificent archeological unrivaled site of Pompei.
In 79 AD, a long and catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius covered and destroyed Pompeii, killing over 2000 inhabitants. The city was covered in a thick layer of ash, which preserved the ruins and its inhabitants and it remained lost for 1,500 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1599.
Today, the site is considered to be one of the few places where an ancient city has been preserved in detail, with everything from jars and tables to paintings and people frozen in time, yielding an unprecedented opportunity for you to see how the people lived 2000 years ago.
During this historical tour, our expert local guide will help you discovering the archaeological site and some of the aspects of everyday life in this ancient city. You’ll be astonished by the number of villas, shops and public buildings that archaeologists have brought back to life. Also, you will stop in a local factory where craftsmen will demonstrate the production process of cameos and corals.
The main attractions include the House of the Gladiators, Eumachia, House of Julia Felix, House of Loreius Tiburtinus, House of Menander, House of Sallust, House of the Tragic Poet, House of the Vettii, Lupanar, Macellum of Pompeii, Suburban Baths and the Temple of Isis. You can also visit the “Garden of the Fugitives” at the south-east side where plaster casts of several victims (sadly, including children) are on display where they originally fell. This tour of Pompeii is truly a breath-taking and unique experience.
